School Counselors

To help guide students toward a more balanced approach to their learning, their peer relationships, and the world, Woodlynde School employs two full-time school counselors with expertise in the grades to which they are focused. Because some students coming to Woodlynde have been bullied or ridiculed in their past educational environments, regular classes with school counselors are a part of the curriculum to facilitate a culture of respect and care for oneself and others. Woodlynde School bases its approach on the renowned Olweus Anti-Bullying Program in conjunction with the Responsive Classroom method to building classroom community. Our school counselors can also work with students to address individual needs in school on a proactive, immediate, and longer-term basis.

Learning Specialists

Woodlynde School employs several learning specialists, one focusing solely on grades K-6, and then one for each grade starting in the 7th grade. These learning specialists create individual student learning profiles, which evolve with students as they develop academically. Through metacognition classes, learning specialists help students understand what their learning challenges and strengths are. They learn and develop what strategies work best for them in various settings — whether it is in class, at home, or even in the wider world. Learning specialists also encourage their students to become confident self-advocates of those personal strategies and of themselves.

Speech & Language Therapist

Woodlynde School employs a full-time speech and language therapist to help students with language weaknesses that impact them socially and academically. Students working with our speech and language therapist focus on developing speech, language, and cognitive communication skills, including articulation, fluency, and phonological awareness.
