Distance Woodlynde

As our community does its part to help "flatten the curve" by staying home, Woodlynde School is still open and educating students with its remote learning program, "Distance Woodlynde."

Distance Woodlynde is tailored to the unique needs of students who learn differently, with online access to our college prep academics, strategic learning support, expert teachers and specialists, and a wide array of technology resources.

This page is designed to serve as a central resource for Woodlynde School students and their families as well as prospective students and their families regarding Distance Woodlynde.

About Distance Woodlynde

Through everything that has come our way, we have continued our focus on our mission and the core values of individualized learning and support that influence everything we do.

Although we are apart physically, the strength and ingenuity of our community has ensured that our students will continue to benefit from the specialized education we offer here at Woodlynde School through a robust and comprehensive distance learning program that we've named Distance Woodlynde. While being apart has necessitated a few changes to how we interact as a community, namely moving much of our interaction online, we are all looking forward to when we can be together again.

  • Student / Family Orientations

Because one of the core values of Woodlynde School is a strong parent / teacher partnership, when you onboard, we will arrange an orientation and review for you and your student. These sessions will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and let us know where you might have difficulties.

As always, you can reach out to our teachers, advisers, learning specialists, and the assistant heads for any questions or concerns as needed.
  • Student Schedules

You should expect a detailed communication from your assistant head on what Distance Woodlynde will look like for your student and you. This communication will include your student's schedule for the school week, which runs from Tuesday through Friday.

We are using each Monday as a professional development day for our teaching colleagues and to provide students with dedicated time to progress or catch up with their school work.
  • Regular Parent Surveys

As we progress with Distance Woodlynde, we recognize that additional changes may need to occur over time to continue to meet the needs of our students and their families. This is why we make it a point to continue to reach out to parents for their thoughts and appreciate your ongoing feedback.
  • Virtual Traditions

The daily Woodlynde School traditions that make our school the community that it is continue virtually in Distance Woodlynde. One such tradition is a virtual version of our morning assembly. A virtual morning assembly video is posted each Tuesday and Friday with the social media theme of the week being introduced in Tuesday's virtual morning assembly.
  • Zoom Installation Requirement and Support

Woodlynde School uses Zoom to support the synchronous portions of the Distance Woodlynde school day. New to Zoom and Woodlynde School? You will recieve a comprehensive guide on how to download Zoom to your student's computer or other device that they are using at home.

Zoom is a great tool for creating a live teaching environment, allowing students time with their teachers for instruction, and providing an opportunity for personal engagement between classmates.

Please download Zoom as soon as you can so your student will be ready for their classes.

Should you encounter any difficulty downloading or using Zoom, please reach out to our Technology Department.

Prevent the Spread of Illness

We advise everyone in our community – students, staff, and families - to follow the same practices that help prevent the spread of the flu and other illnesses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners that are at least 60-95% alcohol are effective.

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes. The main way that illness spreads is from person to person is in the droplets produced by coughs and sneezes, so it is important to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or cough/sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.

  • Do not to share personal items such as drinks, food, or utensils.
