Teacher Spotlight - Scott Purdy: Upper School Health/PE Teacher

Mr. Purdy was a Woodlynde School Student himself for 4 years.
Teacher Spotlight: Scott Purdy, Director of Athletics, Upper School Health/PE Teacher, President of Alumni Society

Years at Woodlynde: 14 years, and I was a student here myself for 4 years.

What I Have Learned From My Students:
  • The ability to overcome their learning differences and the patience that it takes to do so.
Some Things About Me:
  • I started as an exercise physiologist, working with elite and professional athletes. I then realized that it wasn’t what I wanted to do. The people that I was working with were already at top and were looking to stay at top. I wanted to work with people who needed the building blocks of athletic. That’s how I switched careers and got to where I am now.

  • I’m always involved here at Woodlynde – between events, athletics, cutting the grass, fundraisers, and other things. I’ve coached every single sport that we’ve had here, I partake in the CAP program, I have been an advisor/mentor to many students and alumni, and I am president of Alumni Society.

  • In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, biking, hanging out with my kids (basically anything that my kids want to do, we go and do it).
Some of My Favorite Things About Woodlynde:
  • I enjoy working at Woodlynde because of the people. Seeing our students overcome their struggles and getting to build relationships with them.

  • The faculty – they’re personable, and they’re not teaching to test. They’re flexible and adapt to how kids need to learn. They want everyone around them to be successful.

  • I enjoy working with the students because I can relate to them. As a former student here, who struggles in academics, I like giving them guidance to help them overcome their struggles like I was able to here at Woodlynde.
