Groundbreaking Ceremony Kicks Off Multi-Million Dollar Campus Construction Project for Woodlynde School

STRAFFORD, Pa. – On May 22, Woodlynde School held the Groundbreaking Ceremony for its $10.8M campus enhancement project, the school’s most significant building and grounds project in the last 30 years.
The world-renowned, Philadelphia-based architectural firm of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson has designed a campus plan that, through a combination of new construction and strategic renovations, will fundamentally transform the school. Plans include a new Student Commons; additional classrooms and faculty offices; three new learning specialist suites; new music and innovation studios; four new outdoor learning areas; and reconfiguration of the school’s grounds into a fully integrated campus that reflects Woodlynde’s standing as one of the nation’s leading college-prep schools for students who learn differently. Woodlynde has raised over $5M toward its capital campaign fundraising goal of $7M. Board Chair Maryann O’Conor PA’07 and Capital Campaign Co-Chairs Jean Earhart PA’13 and John Williams PA’12 led the Groundbreaking Ceremony with Interim Head of School George N. King, Jr. In addition to the hundreds of donors, faculty members, and students at the Ceremony, also attending were Woodlynde’s previous and future heads of school, Dr. Christopher Fulco and Amy L. Clemons P’19, as well as Woodlynde’s Board Chair Elect Sarah Houston.

In her opening remarks, O’Conor declared “this space where we are now breaking ground will soon house our new Student Commons, a vast and dynamic educational, community, and social space that will become the heart of Woodlynde School.” Earhart shared on behalf of herself and her campaign co-chair Williams that “as the parents of Woodlynde alumni, our own children will not directly reap the rewards of this project; however, because of the transformative education they received here, we want to do all we can to make this exciting project a reality - out of gratitude and wanting to pay it forward for future generations of Woodlynde students.” In his closing remarks, interim head of school King said “if the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response of our student body when seeing the plans for the first time is any indication, I know the board made the right decision when it approved this exciting campus project.”
