Flying across the country to go hiking is always a fun and sometimes crazy experience, especially if it’s done with friends. In February, Woodlynde took a group of 15 students to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce
Canyon, and Las Vegas. From rolling down giant sand dunes, to hiking along a cliff, to riding a massive rollercoaster, students had an amazing time on the trip out west.
Writing teacher Mr. Laughead was one of the chaperones and he had a blast throughout the adventure.
“We hiked down an icy trail called the Bright Angel, and it was thrilling to see how far we could hike without slipping,” Mr. Laughead said. “Tristan Hoyt was able to keep our mind off the dangerous heights by talking about why Communism ultimately fails.”
Mr. Laughead also enjoyed rolling down the Coral Pink Sand Dunes and running up the side of the enormous sand mountain. In addition, he liked hiking along Bryce Canyon and admiring the giant rock formations.
I also went on the trip and it was a big deal for me because I had never flown on a plane before. I was very nervous at first because I never been so far from my parents, but my friends helped me get through security at the airport and eventually board the plane. It was amazing to feel the plane taking off and see the incredible views from the plane’s small windows.
I enjoyed all the places we visited because I was with my friends the whole time. My favorite part was going to the Grand Canyon because we hiked down the side of the canyon and saw the outstanding views. The path heading down the canyon was covered in ice, so getting up and down was hard. Overall, the trip went by quickly, but I had a great time.
Senior Zach Kennedy was one of the students who had the opportunity to travel to the Grand Canyon. “The trip was fun and cool to see all of the different parks,” Zach said.
Zach also enjoyed the meals that were served and the time students had to relax and hang out with friends.
“My favorite part of the trip [were the] meals and the downtime [and] just being able to chill with people from school outside of the classroom,” Zach said.
