Working with and taking care of animals can be a fun, enjoyable experience. Whether it’s caring for a couple of animals or a lot of animals, volunteering at an animal shelter can really brighten up someone’s day.

Junior
Jenna Gibson has been volunteering at the West Chester SPCA animal shelter since March. As of the end of April, Jenna said she had already logged over 200 hours there.

“I go there every day after school until it closes. And on weekends I go there from 10:15 in the morning before it opens until closing time,” Jenna said. Jenna wears a mask and stays at least six feet apart from other people at the shelter to stay safe.

Jenna feeds and plays with the animals. She also cleans their food bowls and cages.

I play with both cats and dogs, brush them depending on their type of fur, and feed them. I clean floors, do the dishes, and clean cages,” Jenna said. “The number of animals I take care of depends. I can take care of 30 or I can take care of only 5. It depends on how many animals we have in the shelter.”
