In this divided society we live in these days, it’s nice to have some unity in the community. That’s why College Guidance Director Mr. Hoffman started a toy drive to unite the Woodlynde community for a common cause and to help out those who are less fortunate during the holiday season.

The toy drive is for Toys For Tots. Toys For Tots is an organization run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.

When asked about how the toy drive is going so far, Mr. Hoffman said, “So far, so good! Students have been independently bringing in toys each day. They are being collected by their advisor and counted.

“I have been thoroughly pleased with all the students so far and appreciate their effort and commitment to helping others,” Mr. Hoffman said. “As of November 19th, at least 30 students have participated by bringing in a toy.”

Mr. Hoffman said he chose Toys For Tots as the charity for the Upper School’s winter fundraiser because, “Toys For Tots is a noble cause to help children in need. There are so many charities and worthwhile causes, but around the holiday season, those who are less fortunate can often feel the strain and stress of their situations. If a toy or two can help brighten a child’s day and give a family a more traditional holiday, then I believe it is a truly worthwhile endeavor.”
