New Extracurricular: See the Arts, Live

If you want a chance to see musicals, plays, or concerts with your classmates, you now can, thanks to a new extracurricular activity called the Live Arts Program.

The club, run by music teacher
Dr. Simmons. allows students to see plays and performances at different locations throughout the school year.

When asked why he started the Live Arts Club, Dr. Simmons replied, “I wanted to provide an opportunity for students to experience a variety of live performances and concerts, and in addition, to allow students to earn an extracurricular credit for it.”

The last four performances the club saw were: the band Violent Femmes at the Fillmore in Philadelphia; the musical
Once Upon a Mattress; Lukas Graham; and Kashmir, which is a Led Zeppelin tribute band.

Due to the growing popularity of the club, Dr. Simmons’ only concern is transportation.  He might need someone to drive a second van or a bus to the performances.

Most of the students who attended these shows found them to be fun and entertaining.

“I liked Kashmir. I'm a big Zeppelin fan and they're a good cover group,” said sophomore
Alex Nunn.

It isn’t too late to join, as the Live Arts Club is going to see the plays
Romeo and Juliet, Jesus Christ Superstar and West Side Story, along with The Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts at the Kimmel Center.
