Senior Jonathan Harnly recently achieved the highest rank that a Boy Scout can accomplish: Eagle Scout. Jon had to show mastery in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoors skills.

Only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout, according to the National Eagle Scout Association.

For his required service project, Jon built a miter saw cart for Woodlynde’s stage crew.

The time and effort that Jon puts towards stage crew really shows how perfect he is for the Eagle Scout honor.
Mr. Kupersmith, who oversees stage crew, commented on this, saying, “I’m upset with Jon Harnly because he insists on graduating and I am not quite sure what I will do when he is gone.”

When asked how it feels to be an Eagle Scout, Jon said, “Really good because I know it will help me in the future.”

Jon has been training and progressing in Boy Scouts since the second grade, when he first became a Cub Scout. When he joined Boy Scouts, Jon moved up the Scout rank, from Tenderfoot, to Second Class, to First Class, to Star, then Life, and finally Eagle.

Mrs. Moldofsky
, Director of the Literacy Institute, attended Jon’s Court of Honor on Oct. 28th. "I was so proud of having [Jon] earn such a high honor in scouting, not just because he deserves it, but because it showed that the world outside of Woodlynde appreciates him as much as we do."
