A Friendly Competition to Motivate Students to Read More Books

The Great Reading Games, Learning Ally’s reading competition, is popular among teachers who are curious about using education gamification to unlock a child's full reading potential. Penny Moldofsky, Woodlynde's Director of The Literacy Institute states, “This competition has motivated more than 90 of my students to access books and to enjoy a positive, comfortable, and enlightening reading experience.”

Our students have been enjoying reading but mostly they are enjoying participating in some friendly competition with other schools! Woodlynde earns points for each student who uses Learning Ally for 20 minutes a day. This can be listening to books that they use in class, listening to books for fun, or listening for information.  We also encourage the students to read on the weekends as extra points are earned for listening on Saturdays and Sundays! Every Monday during our morning assembly, Mrs. Moldofsky announces the score total as well as the Top 10 students! The contest runs through the end of February.
