Teacher Spotlight: Lindsay Baver, Lower School 5th Grade Teacher

Years at Woodlynde: 3 years

Attributes Inspired by My Students:
  • Flexibility – My students inspire me to constantly explore different ways to teach, looking for that method or methods that will help each one have their own “ah ha” moment when they understand a concept.

  • Never Give Up – Keeping trying until you find what works, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Recent Initiative: I am finishing my Master’s Degree in Reading at Arcadia University, where I learn different strategies, techniques, and ideas to use in the classroom.

Some Things About Me
:
  • I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. When I was a little girl, I would play school with my friends. My mother was a teacher, so later in life when I was in high school and college, I would help in her classroom over the summer or on breaks.

  • I love helping students grow and solve problems, and the looks on their faces when they are successful is priceless to me.

  • Outside of Woodlynde, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Alex, and our families, especially at the beach in Cape May, NJ, where I can relax and recharge.

Some of My Favorite Things about Woodlynde:
  • I am so grateful for Woodlynde’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity so that our students know this is a school where they can all feel safe and welcome.

  • The faculty members are one big team, a team that truly cares about and supports each other and one that will do whatever we can to help every student become successful.

  • Thanks to our small class sizes, we really get to know each student’s strengths and needs. We learn about them as individuals, including outside interests that we can use to help motivate them. Because of this well-rounded view of them as learners and as people, we can tailor each student's instruction for a personalized balance of challenge and support.

  • I had the opportunity to run a L.E.A.D. lower school club, and I so enjoyed this different opportunity to interact with the students after school doing fun activities.
