As prom approaches, there are many in the Woodlynde community who have embarrassing or awkward prom stories to share.
From running away from their prom date, to accidentally ripping their pants while dancing at prom, to having their parent chaperone the dance, many within our community have some memorable stories for the books.
During her freshman year, Spanish teacher Mrs. Clark attended prom with one of her friends. As the night progressed, he kept dancing a bit too close, which made her feel uncomfortable because she didn’t like him as more than a friend. So Mrs. Clark spent the rest of the night running around the venue with her friends to avoid dancing with her date.
“My experience as a freshman at prom was a little too close for comfort and was awkward for the rest of the evening,” Mrs. Clark said.
SPLIT HIS PANTS
For Lower School Music teacher Mr. Richardson, his experience at prom was a bit more embarrassing.
“I split my pants whilst dancing too vigorously,” he wrote in an email response to the Informer. “It was pretty early in the night, too. I had a change of clothes with me, but that might have made matters worse, as I danced the rest of the night away in a most unfortunate sweatpants-and-tuxedo-jacket ensemble.”
FATHER’S WATCHING
English teacher Mr. Federinko had an unforgettable night at his high school’s junior and senior prom. Not only was his father the principal of his school, but he chaperoned prom as well.
Prom was on a large party boat, with the dance floor on the lower level and the chaperones watching from above. For the entire night, Mr. Federinko and his date never went out on the dance floor.
“Really, prom was awkward. How would you like your parents chaperoning a dance?” Mr. Federinko said.
HIS TRUE LOVE
Building Substitute Mr. Fletcher had an unusual date for his prom at Dave & Buster’s. A week before prom, Mr. Fletcher’s date was getting on his nerves quite a bit, so he decided not to take her.
Throughout his high school career, he played basketball, so he thought: what would be a better date than a basketball? As a bonus, he wasn’t obligated to only dance with one girl and he could boogie with anyone he wanted.
Basketball “was my love,” Mr. Fletcher said quite seriously. “You’re supposed to take your love to prom so I took my love.”
BLIND DATE
Sometimes, nothing can be more awkward than attending prom with a blind date. Just ask senior Efrem Leventhal.
Efrem didn’t have a date, so his friend set him up with one a week before prom. It was a friend of his girlfriend’s, and Efrem didn’t meet her until the night of the prom.
“It was an awkward experience,” Efrem said.
