Senior Liam Virgil recently was honored for his service as a firefighter at Swarthmore Fire Company.

Liam was third in the fire company with 109 incident responses in 2018. He has been in the top 10 first responders for five years running.

Liam recently participated in a live burn exercise at the Delaware County Emergency Services Center, an event which marks a firefighter’s rite of passage. It has been described as Liam’s “Baptism of Fire.”

At a recent banquet, Liam’s fellow firefighters presented him with a plaque featuring his burned and melted helmet visor. Liam also received a pin recognizing his five years of service at the fire company.

Liam’s father said he and Liam’s mother
“are quite proud of Liam's dedication to community service.”
