The Interim Head of School recently chosen to lead Woodlynde for the next year has previously been the Head of two other schools and is a strong advocate for those with learning differences.

Mr. King
has enthusiastically accepted the Interim Head of School position for the 2018-2019 school year, while the search committee continues to look for a permanent Head of School.

Mr. King said he is eager to join the Woodlynde community in his new position starting July 1st.

“Woodlynde is an extraordinary school that is filled with gifted, intellectually curious students,” he wrote in a news release. “It is a school where dedicated, passionate teachers, who are experts in their field, work tirelessly each day to help the students achieve their potential and prepare them to lead successful lives.”

Mr. King said he looks forward to maintaining the school’s “upward trajectory.”

“Building on recent accomplishments, we will work together to pave the way for additional progress and success during the 2018-2019 academic year and prepare for the arrival of the new permanent Head of School,” he said.

Sophomore
Kyndale Mitchell had the opportunity to meet Mr. King when he visited in April.

“He had a good personality and seemed like the type of person that would know what he’s doing ...” Kyndale said. “I am happy he was hired because I think he will be confident in his job. I think he will be a good fit for this school.”

When Science teacher
Mr. Prontnicki, who is part of the search committee for a new Head, was asked his opinion on Mr. King’s hiring, he said, “I think everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Mr. King will agree that he will be a fantastic Head of School for Woodlynde during the 2018-2019 school year.

“His personality, experience and know-how are a great fit for Woodlynde.”

Mr. King currently resides in Carrollton, Texas, with his wife of nearly 42 years, according to the release.

He previously served as Head of School at Moravian Academy located in Bethlehem, PA, from 2007-2016. Mr. King was also Head of School at the Wooster School in Danbury, CT, from 2003-2007.

Earlier in his career, Mr. King worked as Upper School Head at Greenhill School in Dallas, TX, and in Washington D.C. at the Bullis School, according to information provided by Woodlynde’s Board of Trustees.

In his previous jobs as Head of School, Mr. King said he enjoyed leading fundraising events, which he considers "just one more important way to connect to the community."

He is a strong advocate for those with learning differences and he helped create learning programs to help those students at Wooster and Bullis schools.

Although Mr. King’s official start date is July 1st, he plans to visit Woodlynde in June, before current Head of School
Dr. Fulco leaves, to help ensure a smooth transition.

The search continues for a permanent Head of School, who is expected to start in the 2019-2020 school year. The school has hired consultants from Carney Sandoe & Associates to help conduct an international search for a permanent Head.

The most qualified candidates will visit Woodlynde next fall and meet with administrators, board members, parents, students, and faculty. The Search Committee said it will provide updates throughout next school year.
