Celebrating Summer

The start of summer break is exciting, and many Woodlynde students spend it doing something unique or special, including burning school papers, having a pool party, or excitedly running around the school on a sugar rush.

It’s almost done. The school year has nearly ended. No more laboring over homework, or being stuck in a classroom when the weather is gorgeous outside.

You’ve worked hard and made sacrifices, and once finals are over, you will finally be rewarded with a three month break. Summer, at last.

The start of summer break is exciting, and many Woodlynde students spend it doing something unique or special, including burning school papers, having a pool party, or excitedly running around the school on a sugar rush.

                                     BURN, BABY, BURN
Some students would like to erase the school year, light it on fire, so to speak. This is literally what junior Declan Arnott does.

“I burn a lot of things [in my firepit]: assignment planners, any [papers from] classes I know I don’t take next year, as well as unimportant papers. I then make S’mores on top of [the fire]. It’s a fun way to end the year.”

     MAKING A SPLASH
Junior Ethan Melniczek is looking forward to having his annual pool party.

He’s hosted the party for his friends for years, and last year he invited the Varsity Tennis program.

“[Regardless of who comes,] it’s just a cool get-together,” he said.

                       SPORTS CELEBRATION
Sophomore Zouheir Alrayes looks forward toplaying a soccer game followed by a lacrosse game with his friends to celebrate the end of the year. He has been doing this for four years. Zouheir was the one who thought of the idea, and his friends were happy to join in.

“I usually win the games,” he said.

                         RUGRATS BINGE
Junior Annie Bryant has a more relaxed way of finishing the school year.

“I do what I would do if I weren’t in school,” she said. “I sleep and watch Netflix.”

She went on to add, “I hope the new season of
Shameless will be on. I hope to do another Rugrats binge on Hulu. I also want to catch up on the new Hey, Arnold movie.”

                               SUGARED UP
“I’m going to eat a lot of candy and run around the school a few times,” said junior Jared Smith. “I need to get out the energy.”

In case you don’t believe this, Jared has a witness.

"I've seen him do this before," 11th grade Learning Specialist
Ms. Ball said. "[While he's running,] he's sweaty, he's twitchy and very excited."

There are many ways to celebrate the end of the school year. Even if what you do doesn’t involve something spectacular, you should still enjoy it, as you have worked hard since September and deserve a much-needed break.
