July 2018 Update from the Head of School Search Committee

After successfully selecting George N. King, Jr., who is currently serving as Woodlynde's Interim Head of School for the 2018/2019 school year, the past few months have been quieter ones for the search committee; that is expected to change considerably beginning the first of August.

It has not, however, been a quiet period for our search consultants, Skip Kotkins and Peter O'Neill with Carney Sandoe & Associates, as they have been very busy with outreach and interviews with potential candidates from a wide range of backgrounds. The diverse candidate pool includes current heads of school as well as senior administrators from independent schools and even universities. From their work, our consultants have narrowed an expansive list to 10 highly qualified semifinalists. The Search Committee will begin interviewing these semifinalists in August and will select up to four finalists.

The semifinalist round will be fully confidential and include only the Search Committee out of respect for the candidates and their current positions.
Keep in mind that the Search Committee is a representative group whose job is to evaluate candidates against the all-school criteria that so many of you helped to create last spring. We anticipate that finalists selected during August will visit the school in the latter part of September, and it is then that we plan to have multiple opportunities for the broader Woodlynde community to meet and engage with the permanent Head of School candidates. As we did with the Interim Head of School Search, we will provide you with updates throughout the process.
