Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia – from the Greek (dys “bad or disordered”) and Latin (calculare “to count”), is the broad term for individuals with a neurodevelopmental disorder in mathematics. While the term appeared in prior versions of the DSM (3rd edition), it is not often used in terms of current diagnoses, however remains in common parlance. Under IDEA (2004), this is a disability classification in Mathematics Calculation, or Mathematics Problems Solving. Under the DSM-5, it is a Specific Learning Disorder with impairment in mathematics and includes the specifiers of number sense, memorization of arithmetic facts, accurate or fluent calculation, and/or accurate math reasoning.
