CARES, Homework Assistance, & Tutoring Programs

CARES Before- and After-School Program

Grades K-6
6:45-8:00 a.m.
3:00-5:30 p.m.
For grades K-6, Woodlynde offers the CARES Before- and After-School Program free of charge. Before school, students may enjoy fun and games, arts and crafts, and playground activities in a safe environment. The afternoon begins with snack and homework, with assistance provided by Woodlynde teachers. Fun and active individual and group play then follows, with outdoor playtime encouraged whenever possible, but gym access provided during inclement weather. This service is particularly appreciated by working parents of children who are not yet old enough to be home alone at the beginning or the end of the traditional school day.

Homework Assistance Program

Grades 6-12
Monday-Thursday from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Homework can be the bane of any parent's existence, especially for the parent of a child who learns differently. Some schools take the path of no homework, focusing on in-class work instead. While that may make for a quieter home life, it does not serve the college-bound student. Because Woodlynde's goal is to send students to college with the tools and strategies for success, we recognize that NOW is the time—while at Woodlynde—for students to learn successful study and homework strategies. However, we are not leaving parents to their own devices. Woodlynde provides the Homework Assistance Program (HAP) free of charge to all students in grades 6-12. HAP is run by Woodlynde teachers. Students self-select to attend, and while they are encouraged to be as independent in their work as possible, HAP teachers provide assistance and strategies when needed.

Woodlynde Tutoring Program

For parents who want to go above and beyond what Woodlynde provides in-classroom and through its afternoon programs, the school also offers the Woodlynde Tutoring Program. Expert Woodlynde teachers are available for extra support in any subject area and for any grade. We first encourage discussion with a student's teacher(s) and division head on academic needs and expectations. They can then help guide parents toward appropriate resources within the tutoring program and help monitor student progress both within tutoring and the classroom itself.
Woodlynde School is a private, co-ed college prep day school located in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that serves intelligent, talented students with learning differences in grades K - 12. Woodlynde provides a comprehensive, evidence-based Kindergartenelementarymiddle and high school program in a challenging yet nurturing environment for students with average to above average cognitive abilities (IQ) who have language- or math-based learning differences (such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia or Dyscalculia), Executive Function Challenges, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or Auditory Processing Disorder. Even for those students without a diagnosed learning disability (LD), Woodlynde offers expert and caring teachers in small classroom settings that support academic success. Woodlynde School also offers a post-graduate (PG) program in partnership with Rosemont College as well as a regional Summer Camp for students who learn differently.
