Learning Specialists

Our learning specialists are keystones connecting students, parents, and teachers.

One of ways we support explicit, systematic education across the school is through the use of learning specialists.

Every Woodlynde student works directly with a member of our learning specialist team. They are not tutors. We like to say that our teachers are experts in pedagogy, learning differences, and their core content area while learning specialists are experts in pedagogy, learning differences, and their core groups of students.

They advocate for their students and, in so doing, teach their students how to advocate for themselves.

They create learning profiles for each of our students, outlining specific approaches and interventions for success in the classroom and while working independently. They work with our teachers to implement best practices around executive functions.

Learning Specialists

Woodlynde School employs several learning specialists, one focusing solely on grades K-6, one dedicated to students in grades 7-8, and four responsible for student success in our Upper School. These learning specialists create individual student learning profiles, which evolve with students as they develop academically. Through Metacognition classes, learning specialists help students understand what their learning challenges and strengths are. They learn and develop what strategies work best for them in various settings—whether it is in class, at home, or even in the wider world. Learning specialists also encourage their students to become confident self-advocates of those personal strategies and of themselves.

Speech & Language Therapist

Woodlynde School employs a full-time speech and language therapist to help students with language weaknesses that impact them socially and academically. Students working with our speech and language therapist focus on developing speech, language, and cognitive communication skills, including articulation, fluency, and phonological awareness.
