Social-Emotional Learning
Woodlynde is committed to meaningful growth not only in academics, but also in character and social-emotional development.
Through direct instruction, small group sessions, affinity groups, and collaborative partnerships among teachers and the social-emotional learning team, we seek to match our programming to the needs of our students in a dynamic and evidence-based program.
Program Highlights
The Connections Classroom
At least once per cycle, a member of our social-emotional learning team guides students through an age-appropriate blend of Socratic questioning, dialogue, and role-play activities around social-emotional themes. Taking cues from the renowned Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, we guide our students through everything from stress and time management to goal setting and conflict resolution.
Metacognition
Our learning specialists run courses adjacent to the Connections classroom design to build self-knowledge and self-advocacy through the lens of learning differences. Students explore the neurological origins of how they learn, as well as what supports best match their needs and preferences. In a way, our students think critically about how they learn and build a ‘toolkit’ of strategies and practices that support them now and in the future.
