Kates '18 Wins NBC-10 Widener University Leadership Award

Leo Kates ‘18 was recognized by NBC-10 and Widener University as a 2017 High School Leadership Award recipient.

As one of several students selected for the award from schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, Kates has the opportunity to attend a leadership conference at Widener University and a recognition breakfast at the National Constitution Center. He will also receive a $20,000 scholarship awarded over four years if he chooses to enroll at Widener University.

Each year, principals from schools across the Greater Philadelphia Region nominate one junior from their school for the award. Award recipients are then selected based on their leadership skills, academic excellence, and exceptional character shown through their participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and demonstration of being a positive influence on their peers.

Kates is the sixth Woodlynde student to win this award. Past winners include Patrick Torphy ’13, Andrew Rosenberg ’14, Taylor Sforza ’15, Lauren Robinson ’16, and Matthew Rueter ‘17.
