Kindness Matters with Kelsey Tainsh

As part of our 2017-18 Upper School Speaker Series, Woodlynde welcomed
Kelsey Tainsh to share her personal story with our students. Kelsey is a professional speaker who shares her personal narrative with students while inspiring them to accept and embrace their own differences in this world.

After successfully battling brain cancer at the age of 5, she went on to be a world-class athlete; but ten years later the brain tumor returned, and she suffered from a stroke on the operating room table. Her friends disappeared, the right side of her body did not function, and she became paralyzed with fear and doubt. Kelsey utilized an interactive presentation to teach our students about who she is while empowering them to accept people for who they are, treat others with kindness, and believe in themselves. Our students had fun with Kelsey during her time here and opened up about some of the struggles and challenges they have faced in their own lives. Kelsey imparted the message that we should not hold our challenges inside or hide them from others; instead, she acknowledged the freedom and happiness she felt when she started truly being herself!
