Over the past three years, Woodlynde School has seen a large influx of foreign trips, spanning three continents and up to ten days.
That trend will continue next school year when the Spanish students travel to Costa Rica next spring. In addition, Mr. Frawley and Mrs. Kruk are taking a group of students to Ireland in February on the school’s first non-language based trip.
School trips in recent years have included Peru, Mexico, France and Canada.
When asked what positive impact the trips have on students, Head of School Dr. Fulco responded by saying, “...First, I think these trips get our students out of their comfort zones and allow them to experience a life very different from our own here in the United States.
“Second, I think our students gain an awareness of different cultures and a sensitivity to people who live differently than we do.
“Third, I think traveling builds a student’s confidence and sharpens his/her planning and problem solving skills.
“And finally, some of our trips allow students studying a world language to become immersed in that language in an authentic way.”
Students going to Ireland will have the opportunity to learn Celtic games, take Irish dance lessons, and visit The Library of Trinity College Dublin — also known as “The Long Room.”
In Costa Rica, students will have the chance to go to the beach, zipline, take a Crocodile Safari, and participate in white water rafting.
Junior Jason Swinney said, “I am really looking forward to this [Costa Rica] trip because I ended up really enjoying the Peru trip.”
He went on to add, “... the itinerary looks much more exciting and interesting, and I also have many more friends going on the trip that I am closer with, which will make for an even better time ...”
Woodlynde School trips serve as a way for friends to bond, create memories, and be exposed to different cultures, which is something that hopefully every student will have the chance to experience.
