Letter from Woodlynde's Future Head of School Amy L. Clemons
Greetings Woodlynde Community,
I am honored to have been selected to serve as Woodlynde's next head of school and am tremendously excited about the opportunities ahead of us.
As a candidate, I was so impressed with the commitment, warmth, and depth of conversation I had with each constituency with whom I met during the search process. As a Woodlynde parent for the last five years, I have experienced firsthand and deeply appreciate the school's unwavering commitment to supporting students and their families; it is this commitment that initially drew my family to Woodlynde, and I believe it is the hallmark of this wonderful institution. Our son Hayden graduates from Woodlynde this year, and we are so grateful for the education he has received. The support of the outstanding faculty and staff has prepared him in a multitude of ways for what lies ahead, including gaining admission to the five colleges and universities to which he applied this past fall. I look forward to sharing this sense of pride with colleagues and families every day as I lead the school into its next chapter.
The selection process reinforced for me the entire school community's commitment to the wellbeing and education of each and every student. Woodlynde's great strength is in providing students with the tools they need to become confident, independent, and prepared learners while also building the self-advocacy skills that will enable them to utilize their many resources and strengths. Woodlynde has a 40-plus-year history of providing academic rigor and a robust college preparatory program paired with a dedication to educating the whole child through a commitment to athletics, the arts, and overall personal growth.
This is an exciting time in Woodlynde's history, and I am committed to continuing and building upon the great work of Chris Fulco and George King. The capital campaign and upcoming facilities project will dramatically enhance the function and beauty of the campus. As noted by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent School's Visiting Committee in its 2017 reaccreditation report that lauded Woodlynde's many accomplishments, this project "...will allow the school to provide an even finer educational program, and the facility will more closely match the quality of the experience Woodlynde students already enjoy."
As Woodlynde's new head of school, I will look to balance the need to move the school forward while simultaneously caring for and appreciating our established and thriving community. I am grateful to the Woodlynde Board of Trustees, the Search Committee, Woodlynde faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and students who confirmed for me the sense of warmth and commitment that I already know to be Woodlynde School.
I am so proud to be Woodlynde's next head of school. I look forward to partnering with all of you to continue the strong traditions of our outstanding school while preparing Woodlynde for the future in a way that will showcase, with pride, Woodlynde as the premier independent school on the Main Line for students who learn differently. I am both excited and humbled to do this important work together with all of you.
Woodlynde School is a private, co-ed college prep day school located in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that serves intelligent, talented students with learning differences in Grades K - 12. Woodlynde provides a comprehensive, evidence-based Kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school program in a challenging yet nurturing environment for students with average to above average cognitive abilities (IQ) who have language-or math-based learning differences (such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia or Dyscalculia), Executive Function Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or Auditory Processing Disorder. Even for those students without a diagnosed learning disability (LD), Woodlynde offers expert and caring teachers in small classroom settings that support academic success. Woodlynde School also offers a post-graduate (PG) program in partnership with Rosemont College as well as a regional Summer Camp for students who learn differently.
